Chinese tech giant Huawei is facing a new attack as it tries to persuade the UK government to let it help build super-fast 5G networks in the country.

Top British cybersecurity officials are reportedly confident they can manage any risks from Huawei’s telecommunic

ations equipment, but a report published Wednesday by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), a top security think tank, said that would be a mistake.

”Allowing Huawei’s participation is at best naive, at worst irresponsible,” the report said, sugg

esting such a move could compromise the United Kingdom’s communications infrastructure.

UK spies think they can handle Huawei in 5G networks. The US doesn’t agree

The US government is pushing allies around the world to block wireless operators from buying Huawei gear for the 5G networks t

hey’re starting to build. US officials say the company’s technology could be used by Chinese intelligence agencies for spying.

Huawei and the Chinese government have repeatedly denied the US allegations. Huawei didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

The report’s release comes days after the Financial Times reported that the UK’s National Cyb

er Security Centre had concluded the risks of using Huawei equipment in 5G networks could be managed.

In September 2015, Alibaba Group founder Jack Ma Yun started a program to sponsor rural teac

ment bond issuance or implement more tax cuts, Economic Information Daily reported Wednesday, citing the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

A total of 2.61 trillion yuan ($386.46 billion) of bond quota was unused by the end of 2018, accounting for 14.1 percent of total local debt, the academy said in a report.

This means China can extend bond issuance, or undertake 14 percent of tax and fee cuts.

The debt balance stood at 18.39 trillion yuan at the end of last year, well below the official ceil

ing of 21 trillion yuan, and accounting for 109 percent of total fiscal revenue of local governments.

In 2018 local authorities raised a total of 4.17 trillion yuan through bond issuance, down from 4.36 trill

ion yuan in 2017, according to the Ministry of Finance. The local debt ratio was 76.6 percent last ye

ar, significantly lower than the international warning line of 100-120 percent.

Last year local governments’ implicit debt risk was controlled effectively, however, the total debt level was still huge, the academy said.

In 2018 new explicit debts rose 13.5 percent to 2.18 trillion yuan, while the in-balance-sh

eet interest payment reached 734.5 billion yuan, with a 17.1 percent growth rate, about 2.75 times that of fiscal revenue.

A rapid increase in interest payments put pressure on future fiscal guarantees and service capacity, the academy added.

r’s nomination is under scrutiny from Democrats for a memo he wrote last year criticizing Mueller’s inquiry.

Mueller, who was appointed in May 2017, is looking into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election a

nd any potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, among other matters that may arise from the investigation.

His team has indicted or gotten guilty pleas from 34 people, including several former Trump campaign aides and two dozen Russians, and three companies.

Trump has repeatedly dismissed any collusion between his campaign and Mo

scow, while slamming the Mueller probe as a “hoax” or “witch hunt.”

Last month, Mueller arrested Roger Stone, a longtime Trump associate, on charges o

f obstruction, witness tampering and making false statements to Congress.

As to Stone, the president told CBS in the interview that the 66-year-old veteran political ope

rative “didn’t work on the campaign” except at its onset. The president also said he hasn’t thought about pardoning Stone.

nglomerate Cargill Inc, said the best way to solve trade issues is to talk to each other, communicating to find solutions.

“A large number of global companies have invested in China; it is a clear signal that Ch

ina is going to further open its markets, and many opportunities can be found in different sectors across the country,” he said.

Experts said the new progress, reached by collaborative efforts from both sides, can im

prove the outlook for both the US and Chinese economies and benefit the global economy and supply chain in 2019.

The Chinese and US economies are so inextricably intertwined that a blow to one would most li

kely make a dent in the other, too, said Bai Ming, deputy director at the International Market Institute of the

Beijing-based Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation.

This interdependence would exact far-reaching damage on the optimal resource allocation of both countries if trade tensions esc

alated, said Chen Wenling, chief economist at the China Center for Economic Exchanges. “The US needs C

hinese goods as much as China needs equipment and agricultural products from the US,” she said.
